Thanks for everyone help this is a whole new world for me Going forward I will amend the T.O.S and yeah…if this wasn’t watercolor and some expensive oil work I’d be faarrr more worried lol I think my mistake here was assuming that since I was shipping to there verified address that if it was received it was reasonable to assume it got to the buyer I’ll include that in the shipping detail when I go to ship it that the buyers signature is required Good Call! he’s sent me the deposit but he sent me 75% not sure why he sent more but he seems straight up and I’m hoping this one will go well for both parties Also, only ship to their verified PayPal address, no exceptions. Otherwise they can say they never received it and there will be no way to prove they didn’t. Make sure that only the person whose name is on the invoice is allowed to sign for it. If the amount being paid is such that you absolutely do not want to lose the painting and the money, then send it direct signature required to a specific person only. Also pretty much worthless is allowing anyone at the address, or a neighbor next door to sign for it. Tracking information showing it was delivered is worthless if it doesn’t show who signed for it. …oorrrr if this was oil or something where materials can run in the hundreds yeah I probably wouldn’t have taken a gamble lol I did make it very clear that we will be using the tracking number to count delivery status….so if it was marked as delivered and the client fails to maintain his end I could open a dispute either way i guess I had considered that and going forward I will… my reasoning this time was because I’m still a fresh face and if he wasn’t an honest character he could just open a paypal dispute and I’d be screwed either way. So I would say at most that you request the balance when you print the label, but that you don’t send until you receive the payment. These were not skeevs they were “nice” people. I had to threaten to expose them with hiring a ghostwriter if they didn’t pay. Because when I used to do freelance writing, the few times I allowed people to pay upon delivery, none of them paid. If I were you, I would request the balance before the painting is delivered.
